Main Street First is an
organization of Little Falls residents and other stakeholders in the cultural
and
commercial life of our city. Our mission is to help promote city revitalization
that is fiscally-responsible
and focused on our center city in order to help preserve the unique historical
character of Little Falls
while also protecting our tax base.
Main Street First is made
of lifelong residents, long time residents and newcomers to the City of
Little Falls.
Its members have extensive community service and civic involvement experience,
both in Little Falls and
in their former communities.
The collective community
service and civic involvement of our members can be divided into a
number of categories.
LOCAL
COMMUNITY SERVICE AND VOLUNTEERISM
* youth athletic programs
including coaching and supervision in Little League
and youth soccer leagues
* youth mentoring and academic tutoring in our public schools
* Beautification Committee flower and tree planting
* helping to organize and promote various community festivals, including
Canal Days,
Garlic Festival and Christmas on Main Street
* Main Street First members are involved with a number of civic organizations,
including
the Rotary Club, CARE, the YMCA, Preserve Our Past and the Historical
Society
* city beautification efforts, including graffiti coverage, spring debris
removal and park
maintenance in Sterzinar park, Benton's Landing and Columbus park
* revitalization of municipal swimming pool
* helped to establish community garden
* work with local food pantry
* we are also involved in our local Church communities,
which are important community organizations
VOLUNTEERISM
OUTSIDE OF LITTLE FALLS
* involvement with Habitat
for Humanity, inner city youth projects and international
literacy and hunger programs
* volunteer cook and serving food to the homeless
* VISTS volunteer
LOCAL
COMMERCIAL INVOLVEMENT
* The Big-M store employs
15-16 fulltime and 10-12 part-time year around employees
* hiring of local trades people as subcontractors
* redevelopment and restoration of Canal Place
* helped to establish Canal Place as a National Historic District
* business financial contributions to local school system and youth sports
and providing
of facility and supplies for youth program car washes and bake sales
